For the last few days, I’ve been chasing this set of Sparco wheels and tires on Facebook Marketplace. I’ve actually grown to prefer Facebook Marketplace over Craigslist, mainly because you’re contacting people through instant messaging rather than an email exchange. That has not, however, made the overall experience any less frustrating than Craigslist.
The wheels were listed for $250, which to me is a great price, but not one that I wouldn’t haggle. I had been talking on and off with the seller for the better part of a week, trying to get together for a time to see them, with very little luck. Finally yesterday, we agree on a time and I head over to the agreed upon place. And I wait.
And I wait. And I wait. And when I’m done waiting, I wait some more. Eventually I get fed up, he isn’t answering my messages, so I leave. I get a message from him an hour or two later apologizing, his phone had died, and he offers to bring the wheels to me…but by this time I’m in for the night and I had actually put the money back in the ATM, so I tell him to message me tomorrow (today).
Wouldn’t you know it, he actually does. And he’s more responsive to messages. I go back to the same place, he shows up a few minutes later, and I’ve got a set of wheels.
So what did I get for my effort? For the princely sum of $200, I’ve got a set of 17” Sparco Asetto Garas, 5x100 bolt pattern, in I would say very good condition, with a set of excellent Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 winter tires. Only issue I’ve got is that they’re an ET48, so I’ll need a 10-15mm (maybe up to an inch depending on how I want it to look) hub centric spacer set for it. For what I paid though, I don’t have an issue with that.
And that’s my story of trying way too hard to give somebody my money via Facebook.

It’s always astonished me how difficult it is to get CL people to take your money. I’m currently waiting on like 3 people to get back me via messenger or text...

I actually really love these wheels. When I had my first Miata that was sorta beat up, I wanted 4 different colors of these wheels
. One for each corner. I thought it would be hilarious.

Sounds like a fantastic deal

I am a huge fan of those wheels. They are light as hell and tough. They always seemed to balance with minimal weight. The finish on the set I had was a bit soft, but that was a really minor gripe.
Sounds like a great deal.

Nice, I have the same rims (not green) on my ST

Wow, that’s a fantastic deal. I really like the WS70's as snow tires too, they work great.

CL - search system, great! messaging system.. terrible. Unless they give a number. Like dude I’ve been trying to buy your whatever for a week and you keep lowering the price, obviously you set your email up wrong or you aren’t checking your spam folder.
FB- Messaging, great! Search system.... Christ .

That’s a crazy good deal. You OK with that color? Is it an easily reversible wrap or are you going to have to repaint if you don’t want to keep it as is?

You put money back into the ATM? That sounds backwards lol.

Right? I just don’t like carrying cash, plus it was different denominations because I had sold a bunch of things and after the guy no showed I wasn’t planning on buying the wheels anymore.

I actually really like the color. The car they’re going on is black, so it’ll be a good look. Its the factory color, theres two tiny spots of curbing, but besides that they’re mint.

I still like selling things on Craigslist because of the sheer amusement of some trade offers that I receive. Is the FB Marketplace similar in that regard?

Oh god yes. If you list something and somebody doesn’t offer you half your asking price, it doesn’t even count as really listed. That said, I’ve sold far more things at full ask on FB than I have in CL.

That’s a fantastic deal, worth the hassle.

That’s a pretty great idea. If I had a harlequin VW I’d totally do that...as it were, g reen was my second choice in color here because they were also available in orange. I might paint them orange eventually, but I dig green.

It’s nuts. The main issue on FB is, as a seller, you’ll get a ton of ‘is this still available’ messages and then no reply when you say it is. I’d say I get five of those for every person that actually answers me back.

Nice deal. I’ve been wanting this fancy 120$ condor tall shift knob for a while now but not wanted to spend the money. On Monday I found someone selling one as part of a big part out for 60 and have been waiting and waiting for pictures lol. Told me he was busy selling other parts and earlier tn said he’d get pics tonight.

Green is one of my favorites. Looks good with black
too.

they really need to just let you send a message that isnt scripted to start. it drives me nuts that everyone has to start with “is this available or something else”

That’s awesome, great find. Congrats! You might want to buy a couple of lottery tickets this week too.
